This was an artistically exciting day for me towards the end, I had been able to experiment very quickly with all these different materials where usually I spend time planning and not exploring. It really pulled me out of my comfort zone. We were given a brief to create pieces of work in one single day. Considering that I like to spend time perfecting my work, this was quite a surprise.
First, I created these light sculptures of my arm by wrapping paper around it to mould the arm. I used clingfilm and PVA to stick the paper so it would hold tight. This is where I bridged the gap into casting and really began to think about casting in my practice. From there I took this larger and decided to try and wear the material like a dress. In essence, I was extending the body. This really took the work to a level as it allowed me to visualise how the rolls will work in what could possibly be my final piece of work. This idea spurred on from the thought of mass and excessive bulges. This sense of excessiveness wasn’t really developed too much at the time, but it has gone on to become a huge part of my work. I had already quickly gotten onto the main subject area that I would focus on at the end of my third year without even knowing it.

I was, at the time looking at mixed media so I decided to mix a few together. To start, I used PVA glue on some paper which I then added orange acrylic colouring to, and from there added some orange shavings from a pencil. This created a rough texture and made the paper rough and wrinkly. The PVA made the sheet shiny too. It reminds me of a disgusting fluid that you might get out of your body. Vomit like. I was quite interested in the colouring and how the orange was stronger on some parts of the sheet than others due to the pigment. This is somewhat like how the skin works.
