What have I learnt being an artist?

Writer: PS by handPS by hand

Being an artist has allowed me to express my feelings and views in a way that is captivating and refreshing. I have been able to stumble across new artists that I now love, as well as researching into work and other artists and realising where I want to take my own art. When looking into the female form, I came across a plethora of artists whom I now follow. This has really helped inspire me to create more pieces and push my work out of the boundaries. My experimentation skills have mostly flourished. I experimented with pushing my face up to a glass piece, which squished my face up. I have learnt a lot. I have a love for sculpture. I have had such a good time creating pieces of work using plaster and other physical forms, even using balloons in shirts.

I've learnt as an artist that, no matter how small or big the idea is, or no matter how silly it may seem, you just must make it. Create everything, art has no boundaries and that’s what inspires me to continue to create pieces. You’ve got to follow your instinct. it's difficult to take on everyone's views. One of the things I have recently learnt, but I don’t think I've fully embraced it yet, is that you cannot please everyone, and you cannot take everyone’s opinions and make them all happy. You can certainly try but in the end, you’ll never be happy with your work.

Sometimes the best work requires the least effort. Some of the pieces I have created are impulse creations. My small, crumpled balloons were minimal, yet highlighted my message. One big lesson I did learn, was that I needed to know when to stop. Sometimes when you’re making something, and you’re at the end, it can seem as though the end is not in reach, like you’re trying to add details to it that in hindsight are making it worse.
